What Is a Money Mule?

A Money mule is someone who receives and transfers money or goods obtained from victims of fraud and are recruited through several methods:

1. Employment/Easy Money Scams: A social media or job posting which offers easy money for transferring funds, reshipping packages, buying gift cards or Postal Money Orders, which can
be done online.

2. Romance Scams: A person you’ve met online through sources such as social media, dating sites, or on an app. You become romantically interested in one another and they ask you to transfer money and/or packages.

3. Confidence "Con" Scams: A person or business you don’t know, offers you a cut or commission if you help by completing transactions or transferring money for them.

4. Lottery/Inheritance Scams: A person informs you that you need to transfer or accept money in order to collect winnings or a prize from a lottery, raffle, inheritance etc.

Transferring money/valuables on behalf of others only benefits criminals, and may lead to serious consequences
for you. Stay safe! Report what you know now.                        Resources: goj.gov, fbi.gov,uspis.gov
